METALS:

WHAT IS A METAL?
A metal is a material that is very hard, shiny, and has good electrical and thermal conductivity. They can be hammered or pressed permanently without breaking or cracking.

TYPES & PROPERTIES:
There are two main types of metals ferrous and no-ferrous.

  • Ferrous:

-Carbon steel: Carbon content of 0.6 to 1.4% and Iron content of 98.6 to 99.4 %. Is used to make cutting tools such as drill bits.
-Cast iron: carbon 2 – 6% and Iron at 94 to 98%. Some properties that it have is that is very strong but brittle. Is used to manufactured items such as engine blocks and manhole covers.
-Mild steel: Carbon content of 0.1 to 0.3% and Iron content of 99.7 – 99.9%. Is used for engineering purposes and in general, none specialised  metal products.
  • Non-ferrous:
-Aluminium:  Used in aircraft manufacture, window frames and some kitchen ware.
-Copper: Copper is a natural occurring substance. The fact that it conducts heat and electricity means that it is used for wiring, tubing and pipe work.
-Brass: A combination of copper and zinc. Is used for ornamental purposes and within electrical fittings.
-Silver: Mainly a natural substance. Used for decorative impact in jewellery and ornaments, and also to solder different metals together.
-Lead: It is heavy and very soft and is often used in roofing, in batteries and to make pipes.

ALLOYS:
An alloy is a combination of two or more metals to produce a new one.

  • Brass: Is a combination of cooper and zinc.
  • Sterling silver: Is a combination of silver and cooper.
  • Steel: Is a combination of iron and carbon.
  • Bronze: a combination of cooper and tin.
NEW METALS:
  • Ultrathin Platinium: It's practical to reduce the amount of metal used in fuel-cell catalyst.
  • Crystal: It's a moder metal that will be better because the new crystal will not broke.

THE CURSE:

Team work:

I think that is was a nice team, we work very good, we only had one problem that was, that we didn't know who make the scratch, but for the rest of the thinks we didn't had any type of problem, well, for search the place were we have to record the film yes, but it wasn't a big problem, because the mum of Marc Gili helped us to search a good place. I like my team, and I think that we will win some oscars in tha gala of the 26 of May.

Result

I am very proud of my film it is really nice, for me is the best, we have done a really good job working all together, we didn't get angry, and everybody loves our film, everyone says that we will win the oscars, I think so, but I don't want to say it.

Animation (scratch):

If I have to say the truth, our scratch could be better, there are a lot better pig animations than us, becausse in other groups there are best people making scratch than in our group. Outr animation is good but we think that could be much better.

Edition:

Our film is very nice, we edited very good (I think), there are a lot of sounds effects like the teacher asked us, the edditing is very nice, there isn't the sound os the wind, and the camera doesn't move, except of one scene that the camera move and there is the sound of the wind because we were in a boat, but it doen't matter.

Ways to improve:

I think that my group, doen'y have a lot of thinks to improve, except in the pig animation that we made with the scratch, bause our group worked very well and withou a lot of big problems like other groups in my class and in the other class.
My group is the best form me, because we have done a nice work with great results.

STRUCTURES:

What is a structure?
Is a construction made of specific materials, that resist any type of object (car, person, bus...)
Structures have specific shape.

Uses of structures:
We use structures to support things, like people, vehicles... Another use is to join things, like countries or towns. We can see structues everyday around us, a table is a structure, we use it tosupport our books. Everything is astructure, and we use everyone in a different way.

Types os structures:
  •   MASSIVE OR LINTELLED: This type of structure is build with alarge amount of material, it has a lot of compression and has very few spaces.                                                                       Example: Pyramids in Egypt.
  • VAULTED: The most important thing of this type of structures is that is based on arches or vaults, it leds the builders to increase the size of the openings in thebuilds structures.                 Example: Cathedrals, basilicas...
  • LATTICE: Nowadays is used in modern flats or buildings. Parts: foundation, floor, beams and pillars.                                                                                                                                   Example: house, flat...
  • TRIANGULATED: Is formed using bars, allways in triangular shape.                                 Example: Eiffiel tower...
  • SUSPENDED OR CABLE-STAYED: Is generally made by the uses of cables or rods. They are used in bridges or to cover stadiums.                                                                               Example: Brooklin bridge...
  • PNEUMATIC: It contains compressed air inside it, it doesn't weight a lot and you can dismantle it.                                                                                                                               Example: Funfair attractions for children.
  • ROLLED AND PLATE: Is formed by curved sheets of metal, plastic or composite materials. They are used as shells for all type of objects.                                                                         Example: Car...
  • GEODESIC: Contains three-dimensional triangulated bars and combines the properties of vaults and bar structures.                                                                                                       Example: football stadium..
